At the University of Madeira, the academic year starts in September and ends in June. The first semester begins in mid-September and ends in the beginning of February; the second semester starts in early February and ends at the end of June. During this period there are three (3) holiday periods: Christmas, Easter and summer (full month of August). The academic calendar can be found at http://www.uma.pt.

The entire enrolment and registration process is carried out online. All information and documents must be registered/submitted in Infoalunos. Successful candidates will only need to be in Madeira at the beginning of the academic year, when classes begin.

There are several enrolment deadlines when applying to the University of Madeira. Each period has a number assigned. For example, the first enrolment period is called the 1st phase and any vacancies not filled in this 1st phase are made available in the second enrolment period, which is called the 2nd phase and so on.

Each enrolment request is an independent process and the candidate can apply for either or both. If one applied for the first phase and was successful, you do not need to apply again. If you did not succeed in the 1st phase you could try another course in the 2nd phase. Each enrolment is subject to a fee of € 20.00.
