ECONOMIC and SOCIAL Scope
I have no means of subsistence to study in Portugal, how can I obtain subsidies or other financial aid?
The University of Madeira recommends that students come to Portugal with financial autonomy, as there is no grants/scholarships for international students, as is the case with Brazilian students. However, students may benefit from indirect social support in respect to accommodation and food. On the other hand, students should check annually, the existence of grants/scholarships for the desired course.
The University of Madeira is a public institution. However, as in many other countries, even though it is a public institution, studies are not free and students are required to pay tuition/annuities fees to attend available courses.
At the University of Madeira, Portuguese students as well as students from European Union countries have part of their studies subsidized by the Portuguese State. International students (nationals of countries outside the European Union) do not benefit from these subsidies; the amount will differ from national and EU students.
